Civil War Preservation Trust Park Day

We had 48 participate in the Civil War Preservation Trust Park Day at the Johnson's Island Civil War Prison site.  It was a great success.  We cleaned up more of the 20th Century trash that was deposited by the ditch which had been originally dug by the Union to prevent the Confederate prisoners from tunneling out.  We also cleared up much of the dead wood around the prison compound, and also cleared up about half of the dead wood inside Fort Johnson.  The workers at the fort constructed a very nice breast works around portions of the fort as well, to prevent the deer and ATVs from going over the fort.  Below are some of the scenes that represent the hard work of all.  Although it was a bit chilly, all stayed warm through the hard work, food, and bond fires which were a part of the day.  Thanks to all that came and helped to make the Johnson's Island site a much better representation of this National Historic Landmark.
