Once the dirt around the pipe has been removed, the artifact is photographed and mapped before it is moved from its original location.  The signboard records the date and location of the find.  The signboard also notes the FS # for this pipe.  As the pipe is removed, it is placed into a plastic bag with a Field Specimen tag placed inside as well.  Until the Field Specimen number (704-1-5048) is written on the artifact, the tag always remains associated with the pipe.
